The Woodle is a cross between a Poodle and a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. They are very friendly, playful, and affectionate. They are smart and train easily. The ultimate and highly favorite of all “Doodles”!
Whoodles are non-shedding and hypoallergenic!
Tell us about your breeding program?
We are Whoodle breeders in Pima, Arizona, which is about three hours East of Phoenix. We are in Southeastern Arizona less than an hour from the New Mexico border. We have bred dogs over the years, but we have only been breeding Whoodles since 2020. Our dogs are DNA tested through Embark testing company. Our breeding parents are regularly health checked by a licensed veterinarian and our puppies are raised with great care and love. We use Puppy Culture techniques to make sure your puppy is healthy and well socialized. By the time you get your puppy at 8 weeks old, it will sit on command and will be crate trained. We bathe, blow-dry, and clip the puppies at least three times in those first 8 weeks. We clip their nails every two weeks which also helps them get used to being groomed. We also start leash training with our puppies.
Are Whoodles good pets for those who suffer from allergies?
NON SHEDDING, HYPOALLERGENIC
YES! Whoodles truly are Hypoallergic and non shedding! Many mixed “oodle” breeds claim to be non shedding and hypoallergenic but just because ONE of the parents are doesn’t mean the “doodle” is non shedding. Since both parents of a whoodle are hypoallergenic, Whoodles truly ARE!
They make an excellent choice for families with allergies and no one likes to clean up hair all the time!
What size of dog do Whoodles grow up to be?
SIZE Height and Weight: MEDIUM
Our dogs are bred from the Moyen size poodle (20 inches) and Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier (17 inches) which are medium sized dogs. Puppies should mature in this range as well. Most will grow up to be in the 30-35 pound range. We like to say our dogs are big enough to take on a walk/hike but not so big to take over your couch! They aren’t small enough to be called lap dogs but your Whoodle will love to sit in your lap! Our puppies out of Dolly are bigger and have averaged 40-50 pounds. Dolly is our biggest female. We plan to have a litter of mini whoodles soon!
What are the Whoodle coats of fur like?
COAT, TEXTURE, and COLOR
Coat types will range from loose wavy to shaggy curly. Wheaten’s tend to have a soft and wavy coat whereas poodles are more of a tighter curl. The combination between the two dogs makes for a soft, wavy, silky coat. A Whoodle can range from a variety of colors; black, red, apricot, silver or parti/merle. The Wheaten’s are white/cream in color but have a black recessive gene which produces more black whoodle’s than you would think. We will have a litter of F1b whoodles and they are more curly.
What is the Whoodle temperament like?
TEMPERAMENT
This cross is a winner! They are very family-friendly with a wonderful personality! They are fun, loving, and do particularly well with children and other dogs. They are playful and smart and respond well to training. They are very energetic and love long play sessions with their humans. We have had several families buy a second whoodle from us because they loved the first one so much!
How much grooming and exercise do Whoodles need?
GROOMING – EXERCISE
As this is a non-shedding dog, the coat should be brushed on a regular basis. A Whoodle should see a groomer once every 4-6 weeks. Giving your dog a bath in between trips to the groomer is also a good idea. Whoodles are not overly active, but they do like to play. They should be given daily exercise and playtime. They love large, fenced yards and enjoy being part of the family.
Can you describe the Whoodles appearance?
APPEARANCE
They really do look like a live Teddy Bear! This comes from the blocky looks of The Wheaten Terrier and the larger ears from the poodle. The coat is a combination of soft and wavy hair which makes for a super cuddly dog. Make sure you look at our pictures on this site to see how adorable they are! One of our whoodle families said they get stopped every time they take their whoodle out in public because people want to know what kind of dog they have and who the breeder is!
Are there health concerns a Whoodle owner should be concerned about?
HEALTH
The Wheaten Terrier was bred to be an outdoor, small farm dog. The Poodle was originally a hunting dog. Because of their heritage, they both are considered very sound and healthy breeds. All breeds have the potential to be affected by a number of different diseases. Some of the conditions that could affect the Whoodle breed include hip dysplasia, ear infections, allergies, and progressive retinal atrophy. For the most part Whoodles are a healthy dog and can expect to live around 13-15 years.
